| This year's Woodworker's Expo is being held at the UVI's Grat Hall on St. Croix. Many talented individuals are set to show their wares and their processes. |
|
Entering the hall, we saw that there were more woodworkers displaying their work than the last show. Most of the work is done in Mahogany or Tipid wood, what we have locally in abundance. Woodworking is catching on. |

And, yes, we have lady woodworkers, too! |

Then it was time for a demonstation out on the lawn. The demonstrator of the hour was Rodger Nickell, who showed the crowd how to make flutes on a vase using various implements. He spoke about drying times for wood and when a piece can be turned based on its moisture content. It is all in the feel. |

Here we are shown how to use the lathe to shape the work and calipers to check the wall thickness. |

And now we learn how to shape the fluted sides. |
