The Best of St. Croix |
Starving Artist's Fall 2008 |
Today is the end of the year Starving Artist's Fair and the 2nd Annual Guavaberry Liquour contest at the Whim Greathouse Planation Museum. This event is sponsored by the St. Croix Landmarks Society and 93.5 FM Paradise Radio. |
Traffic was slow around the entrance to the Whim Plantation. Many island residents were getting a first glimpse of the shopping season. |
There were vendors of all types, food, crafts, art, jewelry and other creative works. |
There was a poetry reading session. This is one of the literacy program's ways of including the youngsters into the programs. |
And CASA was on hand with the latest t-shirts and caledars to support their outreach program. |
Throughout the day, participants could get a taste of Guavaberry Liqueur or Guavaberry Rum from the 93.5FM tent. Judging the best was done later in the day. |
Guavaberry Rum, Liqueur and Preserves were all on display. |
Bottoms up! |
Inside the Landmarks' Ancestor Discovery Group was showing family trees being discovered and filled out as new information is gathered. |
Meanwhile the Rising Stars Steel Orchestra was serenading us with Christmas selections. |
The Guardians of Culture Mocko Jumbies were there to move through the crowd dancing to the music. |
Then it was time for the Guavaberry Winners to be announced. Roger Morgan and his band of Merry Elves passed out the prizes. |
Following the winners was a dance troupe of young girls performing African inspired dances. |
Then they pulled others from the onlookers in to dance with them - truly a community event. |
