Leaves are used in a tea as a sedative, tranquilizer, and as a digestive stimulant. Treats gastric cancer, colic (without side-effects), and shingles. Used as a diuretic, a glycoside, and heart tonic; to still hyperactivity, to ease asthma, whooping cough, bronchitis and urinary infections.

Eaten out of hand. Juiced for syrup, ice cream, jellies, soft drinks, and wine. Seeds used to extract their oil. Rinds and seeds are used in animal feed.

Pulp used as a digestive aid, for bile disorders, as an antiscorbutic, against inflammations, sore throat, fever, rheumatism, sunstroke, poisoning, intoxication, leprosy and paralysis.
Young leaves and flower extracts used for conjunctivitis, as an antiseptic and as a vermifuge; against dysentery, jaundice, erysipelas, and hemorrhoids. Poultices of leaves are used on aching joints, on sprains and boils.
Bark is used as an astringent on sores and in tonics against fevers.

Pulp eaten out of hand, used to make candy balls.
Used in sauces (Worchestershire for one), in curries, jellies, jams, chutneys, pickles, drinks, spiced beverages. Used as a dye for hides. Combined with sea water as a silver and brass cleaner.
Young leaves and flowers eaten as greens and in soups. Used as fabric dye.
Flowers may be added to salads.
Seeds can be made into flour, used as a substitute coffee, pressed for amber cooking oil,
lighting oil and varnish.
Twigs can be burnt to make an ink, or used in tanning.
Tree produces lac resin used to make lacquers, shellacs and varnishes for fine mahogany furniture.

Used as an antidysenteric, against hepatitis, hypertension and cholesterol; as a vermiguge, an antivenom (snakebite) and as an aphrodesiac. Leaves used in baths to counteract poisoning.

Seeds used as commercial colorant (Annato) of butter and cheese. Crushed seeds are added to soups, rice, meat seasonings and stews.
Kalinago (Carib) Indians used seeds to paint their bodies red as an insect repellant.

of hand or stewed. Juice used for ice cream, in drinks, jellies,
cider and wine. Green fruit can be pickled. Young leaves may be
cooked as greens.|
This tree usually grows at a site where its roots can find potable water (useful for the digging of wells). Bark of the tree used in tanning, indigo dying and as a cork substitute.

|Medicinal Uses - Sap is used to make Copalite a dental nerve sealant. Sap smoke smudge for headache and rheumatism. Bark tea for vigor and appetite, energizes against fatigue. Also, a tea for treating diarrhea, dysentery, constipation, prostate ills, asthma, laryngitis, bronchitis, athlete's foot and nail fungus.|
|Commercial and Other Uses - Sweet pulp may be eaten out of hand - although pungent in aroma. Also, made into a drink. Seeds used by young boys in a game called "cock", the idea of which was to break the opponents seed by hitting it with yours which was tied onto a string.|

Roots are an antidote for poisons. Seeds used as sedative, for asthma, colic and are an intoxicant.|
|Commercial and Other Uses - Tart-sweet fruit eaten
out of hand and in salads. Used as garnishes, in puddings, tarts,
stews, curries, as relish, sherbet, pickles and desserts. Green
fruit used as a vegetable served with boiled fish.|

|Medicinal Uses - Kernel fat from the seed is used to cure stomatitis. Kernel powder used as a vermifuge, for hemorrhages, bleeding hemorrhoids and diarrhea. Leaves are used in a decoction for diarrhea, fever, flu, diabetes, hypertension and in baths. Bark can be used as an astringent against rheumatism and diptheria. Sticky gum used for cracked skin on feet, scabies and syphilis. Dried flowers are an astringent for diarrhea, dysentery, bladder catarrh, and urethritis due to gonorrhea.|
|Commercial and Other Uses - Ripe fruit eaten out of hand. Used in fruit salad, preserved, canned, for jam, marmalade, nectar, jelly, fruit leather, halva, infant food, made into a drink and custard powder. Half ripe or green fruit used for pickles, pie filling, sherbet, kuchila and chutney. The kernel has been roasted or boiled when food is scarce, can be dried and ground for flour, and used as cattle feed. Kernel fat is a substitute for cocoa butter and used in soap making. Mango peel is a source of pectin. Young leaves can be cooked as a vegetable. Mango wood has long been used for lumber and carving wood. Bark has been used in the tanning of hides and as a source of a yellow dye. Sticky gum is used for mending broken crockery in Africa, and as a substitute for gum arabic in India. Mango trees produce more fruit each year and live well over 100 years. Truly, the Mango is a tree planted by the Creator to sustain man with its many, many uses.|
