The 3rd Annual Pig Roast took place on a balmy autumnal afternoon at Castle Coakley's Park. This event is a real treat for the Latin community - who will reign supreme as the best lechon cooker on the island? Our photos are courtesy of A.F. Rivera.
When we arrived at the festival, music was entertaining the large crowd at the park.
As people waited patiently for the lechon, booths were set up with the side dishes and other Latin offerings.
Some lucky people got an early start on their lechon, rice and beans.

The day was a cool (78 degrees) autumn day heavy with shadows. A good day for a game of dominoes.
Dominoes is one of the favorite games of the islands.
Ah, the trussed pig. And if you don't eat pork, there is also an offering of pit roasted chicken. And if you don't eat meat, you can have the sides alone. There is something for everyone.
As for the pork, there were about ten of them roasting in pits. The air was filled with the smell of pork roasted outdoors - a different experience than on the hibachi or in the oven.
Two patrons pose with Governor John deJongh in the middle.
The judges wait in anticipation for their samples. Then the judging begins. No cerveza to wash it down, just water.
The rest of the pork is cut up for the patrons. Meanwhile the governor personally thanked the judges for their work in choosing the winner.
And so we end the day, cooling out listening to music with a belly full of pork and a cerveza in hand.
