Vehicles lined both sides of the road leading to Cane Bay, the site of the Mardi Croix Parade. |
Some had their spot picked out and spoken for. |
Some came for the wave action. |
Some came to go boating. |
Some came just for the sun and sand. |
And a gal named Tish was there for it all. |
More sun worshipers. |
And even more zany sun lovers. |
There were strollers... |
And more strollers. |
And even more strollers. |
There were those odd dressers. |
And the mad hatters. |
And the crowd waited. This parade must be on Crucian Time, man! |
If you got hungry, you could buy a hotdog while waiting for the parade. |
Hmmm...I wonder if I can get me one of those hotdogs. |
And then it began. |
Renny Roker was in the lead car entry. |
The Harley Davidson club members were part of the parade. |
One biker on his hog. |
There were little revelers... |
towing their canoe. The kind the Carib Indians used to navigate St. Croix' rivers. |
Then the parade of cars. |
And this classic was next. |
These fellows had a tailgating party going on. |
And the parade continued. |
This one was puzzling. |
And this was somebody's fantasy. Tatoo turned out to be quite a bit taller than I had expected. |
And the majorettes were twirling their batons to music. |
One pretty smile from a Majorette. |
Beads and candy and bubble gum were thrown to the crowd. |
"Captain Bill" and his yellow plane. Note the rates posted. |
The horses were decked out. |
This horse was especially pretty. Horseflowers! |
And the younger horsemen came after. |
As the sun grew hotter, some ladies, like this one, sported parasols. Very pretty. |
Another parasol with a happy parade-goer to shade. |
Elvis may have left Graceland, but he has been sighted on St. Croix riding a motorcycle! |
Another merry maker enjoys the festival. |
There was a momentary gap in the parade. |
These two ladies waited for the parade incognito. |
Some of the crowd had alternate forms of entertainment. |
Not to be outdone, Eyore the Donkey had his share of riders as well. |
And then, the Coconut Kids of Crewe de Croix came down the road. |
The show was spectacular. |
The troupe wore a mixture of animal skins and bird feathers. |
There was that "Hyper Bootie" again. |
Getting into the rhythm. |
More of the routine. |
The dance goes on. |
Aren't I fashionably dressed pour un chien? Bien sur, mon ami! Laissez le bon temps rouler! |
Some of the usual suspects when it comes to having a good time! |
