The Best of St. Croix
Christiansted Bypass Project
The Christiansted Bypass...a project designed over 20 years ago to alleviate
the through traffic of big trucks on the narrow one-way streets of Christiansted
Town, has begun the over-the-hill construction of Phase 1, from Contentment
Road to Gallows Bay, West of Canegata Ballpark.
The whole idea is to keep large trucks off the tiny streets of Christiansted
town. The noise pollution, upon completion, is forecast to be reduced
greatly, and less traffic to help maintain stability of the walls of the
ancient buildings. These photos show King Street, the Wharf and
Company Street, the ways in and out of town presently.
This photo shows the approach to the bypass in Gallows Bay coming
from the East, past Canegata Ballpark.
