New Year's Day - (Holiday)
Ring in the new year by visiting with relatives and loved ones. Start the
new year together.
January 2
Food Fair (Half Holiday)
The Food Fair highlights the best of St. Croix. All the traditional
dishes are brought out and everyone has a good time eating.
January 3
J'ouvert (Holiday)
This morning starts with a lively tramp in Frederiksted to bring in
the new year.
January 4
Children's Festival Parade (Holiday)
Today is the Children's Parade with floats, troupes and floupes.
January 5
Adult Festival Parade - (Three Kings Day Observed)
The Christmas season does not end until today with the Three
Kings Parade. Three Kings Day this year is actually Sunday.
The village ends tonight, also.

January 16
Jazz Festival in Frederiksted
Today the Holland America ship Westerdam is in port. This
ship is the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise which is here
as part of the St.Croix Jazz & Blues Week which runs from
January 13 through January 19.
1900 cruise passengers
will be disembarking for this 7th Annual Rhythm & Blues
Festival. Headlineres are Taj Mahal and the Phantom Blues
Band, Coco Montoya, Max Cabello, Shemekia Copeland,
Terrence Simien, Deanna Bogart and local band Stanley
and the Ten Sleepless Knights. Music will begin from 2PM
until 10PM at the Paul E. Joseph Stadium in Frederiksted.
Bring a blanket to sit on. No outside food or beverages
allowed.
January 17
Art Thursday - Christiansted Town
Tonight visit various galleries in the town of Christiansted and
get special deals from 5PM to 8PM.
January 18
Sunset Jazz - Frederiksted Town
Tonight is the first Sunset Jazz of the year featuring Rhythmx
on the waterfront in Frederiksted. This event coincides with the
full week of Jazz events taking place in Freedom City.
Today in Christiansted town on the Boardwalk there is the
annual Dog Parade. Dress up your pooch for the festivities.
Registration begins at 12 Noon. The parade begins at 1PM.
Lots of goodies for your pet will be on hand and for sale at
local stores and Sadie's Pet Boutique.
February 2
Mardi Croix - Cane Bay
Crewe de Croix once again puts on the Ritz in the Mardi Croix
parade at Cand Bay. The model for this parade is Mardi Gras
in New Orleans.
February 8
Valentine's Jump Up - Christiansted Town
Tonight is Valentine's Jump Up in the town of Christiansted from
6PM to 10PM. Stores will be open for an easy and convenient
shopping experience. Musicians play n eery corner while you
enjoy cocktails and open-air cafe cuisine. Sponsored by the
Christiansted Retail and Restaurant Association.
Caribbean Community Theater
Tonight opens the musical show Chicago with some of our local
stars.
February 9
Fur Ball - St. Croix Animal Welfare Center
Tonight at 7PM begins the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center's
Annual Fur Ball Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction. This event is
being held at the Brass Parrot Restaurant at the Buccaneer
Hotel. Make an effort to attend. Limited to 100 guests.
International Regatta & Valentine's Optimist Regatta
This weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, the Regattas will
be run from 10AM around the island by the St. Croix Yacht
Club. The adult craft will be racing in several races from the
Buck Island Channel to Christiansted Harbor and the
Optimists (children) will be racing their craft on the East side
of Teague Bay. Sailboats everywhere!

Sunset Jazz - Frederiksted Town
Tonigh,t at sunset, is another installment of our festival of music,
Sunset Jazz in the town of Frederiksted. Hosted by the Frederiksted
Economic Development Association. Bring a blanket for this free
concert.
Spring Fling Invitiational Swim Meet
The St. Croix Dolphins Swim Club is hosting the Spring Fling
Invitational Swim Meet this weekend.

Martin Luther King's Day (Holiday)
Today we honor a great man who stood for justice and equality
for all men regardless of color or religion. We could use a bit of
that old time empathy in the world today.
This weekend, plan to attend the Agricultural Fair at the Lower
Love Station on St. Croix. This year's theme "The Business of
Agriculture:The way Forward". Along with the exhibits of Fruits,
Vegetables and Livestock, there will be exhibition booths for
schools, community agencies and government agencies - to
include the Energy Office and WAPA. There are, also, food
booths lining the promenade areas. There will also be various
musical shows, a Fairwear Fashion Competition, Calypso
shows, a Maubi Competition, a Pigtail Souse Competition and
five Food Demonstrations over the three days. Lots to do and
see.
21st Annual Caribbean Fine Art Exhibit -
Good Hope School Campus
This week also showcases the Fine Arts of the Caribbean at
Good Hope School as a benefit for the Good Hope School
Scholarship Fund. Friday evening from 7PM to 9PM, there is a
preview sale and reception. The exhibit continues, with free
admission, Saturday through Monday beginning at 10AM.

21st Annual Orchid Society Show
This weekend features the blooming orchids at the Orchid
Society's annual festival at the American Legion Hall. The show
is open from 9AM to 6PM. Come see some local beauties.

St. Croix Environmental Association's (SEA)
Annual Masquerade Ball
This year's SEA Masquerade Ball will be held at Divi Carina Bay
Resort and Casino from 6:30PM. Dress up as your favorite sea
creature and join in on the fun.
March 15
St. Patrick's Parade
Today from 11AM there will be the St. Paddy's Day 39th Annual
Parade in the town of Christiansted. Judging this year will be in
Sunday Market Square. Wear your green!

Palm Sunday
Catholics this day carry blessed palms home from church. They
are a reminder of Jesus' entering into Jerusalem.

Today from 10AM to 5PM lots of art and lots of blooming plants,
hibiscus and floral arrangements will be on display for the benefit
of the St. George Village Botanical Gardens.
United Way Chili Cookoff - Divi Carina Bay
Today is the contest between local chili cooks to see who is the
best. The best will travel to Terlingua Texas for the National Chili
Cookoff. May the best cook win.

Transfer Day (Holiday)
Today we celebrate the transferring of the Virgin Islands from
Denmark to the United States. This purchase of the islands by
the United States was a strategic maneuver during WWI.

Carnival in St. Thomas
All month there will be Carnival events from Queen Shows to
Calypso Monarch contests, parades and many other events.
April 17
A Taste of St. Croix - Divi Carina Bay Resort
This year the Taste of St. Croix event tops off a week-long
exploration of restaurants on St. Croix. Celebrity chefs Rocco
Dispirito, Robin Hass and Kevin Rathbun will be judging this
year. The event begins at 6PM and ends at 9PM. Bring your
appetites for the new and unusual. Also, Moet Chandon and
TEMPO present an afterparty from 9PM to 1AM in the Lobby.

Passover
Passover begins today at sundown and lasts until sundown on
April 27. Today Jews celebrate the exodus from Egypt and the
creator's sparing the lives of the Jewish people from the ten
plagues.

Summer's First Day!
May 4
Ironman 70.3 Triathlon
Beginning at 6:00 the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon will be run by some of the
biggest names in the sport as part of the worldwide set of Triathlon courses.
Mike Pigg will be back, once again, to run, bike and swim the course. The
race covering the East End and Mid-Island will, as expected, see bikers
trying to master that tortuous climb known as 'The Beast'.

2nd Annual Kallaloo-Gumbo Cookoff
Today is the Kallaloo-Gumbo Cookoff in Cane Bay at the Spratnet Bar.
Competition begins at 1PM, so bring your appetite.
June 29
3rd annual Emancipation Donkey Races
Today at 1PM at the Paul E. Joseph Stadium, Donkey Races will be run
for fun and cameraderie. Donkeys from the island of St. John have
been brought over for the event.
July 2
Emancipation Tea Meeting
Tonight at 7:30PM in Customs House Square in Frederiksted, the
Department of Tourism and the Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Committee sponsor this year's Emancipation Tea Meeting. A load of
laughs following the original structure of the tea meeting ceremony. The
Millenium Choir, Scratch Band, St. Thomas Heritage Dancers and
featuring Paul Keens-Douglas.
July 3 (Holiday)
Emancipation Day - 160th Anniversary
This morning at 5:30AM the Fort to Fort Emancipation Walk hosted by Senator
Terrence "Positive" Nelson starts at Fort Christiansvaern in Christiansted to
Fort Frederik in Frederiksted.
11:00AM begins the Cultural Food Village in Frederiksted.
1:00PM in Customs House Square in Frederiksted the Emancipation
Commemoration program begins. This year's featured guests are Grupo
Majestad Negra from Puerto Rico, historian Mario Moorhead, the Chief of the
Carib (Kalinago) Nation Territory of Dominica, The Hon. Charles Williams, and
Minister of the Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan.
There is an Emanciption Art Exhibit to see at the Fort.
8:30PM the Emancipation Street Quadrille begins in Customs House Square
with Native Rhythms Band and dance caller Curtis Williams.
July 4
Independence Day (Holiday)
Celebrating the U.S. Independence from British rule.
As a continuation of Emancipation Week at 2:00PM the Charlotte Amalie
Marching Band from St. Thomas and the St. Croix Rising Stars Steel
Orchestra will perform, and a special performance by local "queens" will take
place in Frederiksted.
The Amistad reproduction slave ship docked in Gallows Bay Habor.

Mango Melee - St. George Village Botanical Gardens

Governor's Luncheon - The Frederiksted Fort
Today, the Mango Melee celebration will take place at The St. George
Village Botanical Gardens. Displays of fruit, food preparation contests,
classes on plants and fruits,lots of vendors and of course, a mango eating
contest. 11AM to 6:30PM.
Sailing School - Frederiksted
Local youth take summer lessons at Junie Bomba's Sailing Academy.
