July 4th Celebration American Freedom 1776 July 4th marks the date that the United States won its independence from England. It is a double emancipation for us here in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our day was marked by dancing - Music In Motion and Dembaya's Rythmic African Drumming and Dancing. Music was by Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights, and a fireworks display was put on by the Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow Foundation. Spectacular!
Music in Motion took the stage and performed a dance to Ray Charles' rendition of "America" to commemorate the birth of the nation.
Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights playing Quelbe music - the National Music of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Dembaya Drummers and Dancers were next to take the stage with complex African Drumming and traditional African Dance moves.
The crowd assembled and waited patiently for the fireworks. There were so many people and cars that it took an hour to clear the streets of traffic after the event.
